At The StillRoom you can find new and  like-new books either to buy or to take it on loan.

Our second-hand bookshop,

In our second-hand bookshop, we do our best to offer a small selection of interesting titles ranging from historical to general fiction, passing through crime, romance non-fiction and a bit of world literature. The books are all in a very good condition displayed in tidy, clean and orderly way. 

  

The books for sale are separated in different sections we call rooms:     

The yellow room - Non fiction

The blue room - General Fiction

The red room - Classics and historical fiction

The White Room - International Autors

The rainbow room - Children and Fariy tales

The rose room - Romance

The dark room - Crime and thriller fiction

If you feel that we have misclassified anything or that we should add any titles please contact us, we always welcome any advises and critics given in a gentle way. We are aware that we are not experts and that we make mistakes, we do not try to be perfect but we love books and we would love to be able to offer the best services we can, so we need your help.

and put it at the disposal of the community

because you believe it is something that is worth and helpful,

in the beautiful hope, that, the community might agree with you

and discover something they didn't know they need or want.

How we think it could work.

The StillRoom is just a Room available for everybody who needs a place to relax, to pose and meditate or to do some gentle exercise, to think and to reason, to share ideas with others, to listen, to learn or to teach something new or old but forgotten, to create something with recycled materials or with any materials you can think of, to read and...  possibilities are as many as we can think.

At the start, the Room will be open only the evenings when there is an activity scheduled, but we hope to be able to keep it open  regularly at some stage.

The Room can  be booked for a minimum of two hours, longer session as opening during the day during the week might or at weekends is possible if there is the request for it. The reason of the two hours minimum time for each booking derives from  he idea at the foundation of this space: that  is to provide a certain quality of services and to purposely give ourselves time for tuning in any activities and confronting each other after a common experiences when possible without having to rush to be anywhere else. 

§        If you are interested in renting the Room to run your own paying fees activity we propose the following fees schedule:

¨      20 euro per session of  two hours,

¨      40 euro for half day,

¨      80 euro for a full day

2)       If you instead want to organize a free of charge activity, the use of the Room is free except for a symbolic token for the coffee of:

¨        2 euro per person for small groups (less than 5 persons)

¨       10 euro for the bigger groups,

§          For activities coordinated by The StillRoom, the participation will be free except for a symbolic donation of 2 euro per meetings or a monthly membership plan will be available for 10 euro per month for persons. the membership will entitle not only to participate to the Room's activities but also access to our books. 

§        For support groups and activities which are beneficial to some charity of your choice the use of the Room will be free of charge, freely given donations for this activities will be accepted.

The reason for the fees schedule above is to cover the cost to set up the Room, to keep the Room open and to be able to provide a quality service, and if at any stage we will be operating with some profit, the profit will be reused to expand the Room and the type of activities offered.

 

We aim  to give full transparency of our activities, so we will strive to regularly publish on our website the details of our costs, revenues, donations received if any and donations made to any particular cause we believe in, if things might take long, please note that at the moment this is organized by one person with full time work so there might be some delays.

If you feel that anything we propose is unfair or you would suggest something different, feel free to contact us with your proposal.

Why books.

There are books we love;
books we hate;
books we could not stop reading and books we could not finish no matter how much effort we put into it;
books that remind us a special moment;
books that we read and re-read and everytime they tell us something new and different;
books whose stories appeal to us, but we end up not reading it because we do not like the writing style;
books, we thought, were not worth the effort, which, instead, surprised us;
books we read during some holidays and we then forgot;
books which we won't ever forget;
books that will teach us something;
books which will make us furious and bitter;
books which will give us hope;
books which will make us laugh aloud like silly or cry like babies;
...
and then there is sometime  a very special book, that might change our life, the way we look at the world and at ourselves and which will enlighten us.

Books can be our companion,
they can be our fantasy and reality,
they can be mystery and discovery,
they can be safe and dangerous,
they can give us freedom to create something different.

This is why books are so important to me and are part of "The StillRoom" vision.
Because, I believe that they can create the right environment in which our life can blossom.

I hope we can share and enjoy them, I hope we can learn about new ones we didn't know about and rediscover some that were forgotten .

I will publish soon the list of books that are available for sale and the list of books which will be available for loan once "The StillRoom" will be open. If you have in mind some special book you wish to add please send me a note and I will see if I can find it at a reasonable price.

A welcoming, comfortable and spacious Room, tucked away in a peaceful corner in the heart of Donabate village,

where you can leave life's stresses and enjoy a diverse range of Courses and Workshops including yoga, meditation, alternative therapies, dance, painting for you and your children;

where you can start your own Club and Support group and you can meet like minded people and talk about anything that matters to you: a book, a movie, a new craft project, a new idea to change the world, a new theory in psychology, in economics, and about our society;

where you can buy or borrow books, or where you can bring yours when you want to share a great book with others,

a place where you can find respect for your ideas, your uniqueness and diversity and share a common desire to build a fairer and happier society.

Every idea and every person, regardless of age, gender, nationality or beliefs is welcome.

This Room is a vision that will become reality in January 2013.
